Pangani is a small coastal town located in the Tanga Region of Tanzania. PANGANI (Overview)

Pagani is the coastal area situated in Tanga region; the area derived its name from the river that runs through the northern part of the historical town of Tanga that flows from the slope of the Kilimanjaro Mountain. The area is of 50 kilometers from Tanga town, the southern part of the city. Pangani has a notable history dating back to the 15th century and traces of old buildings and monuments that can be seen to date whereby the area was the trading port for the slaves and ivory. Hence being in the town you will find several historical sites which reminds of the colonial era in Tanganyika (Before the independence and the Union) from the Arabs, then the Germanys and lastly the British. Leaving the history behind, currently the area is mainly a fishing town providing beautiful beaches with coconut trees and the Mangroves trees.

As a cultural and beach holiday destination, Pangani is an ideal place for the travel who look up for the Swahili coastal African culture that is undisturbed by the modern tourism. The tour in Pangani is a walking tour that will involve visiting the historical buildings which are Arabic historical sites combined with the Swahili architecture which are very old and some dated of 200 years. Nevertheless, there are plenty places that a visitor can pay attention to, and this includes the Palma fringed sandy bay, the Pangani river itself with good population of birdlife, the Maziwe Island (Sandbank), which is the marine park and offers the clear water for Snorkeling, Beaches and the Mangrove trees along the beaches.
