Your adventure begins at the Machame Gate after an early morning transfer from Moshi, The hike will began after a morning breakfast, generally around 9:00 AM. On this day, you'll trek through lush rainforests, marveling at the dense vegetation, towering trees , and a rich variety of birdlife. The trek is relatively moderate, serving as an introduction to Kilimanjaro's diverse ecosystems.
Leaving Machame Camp behind, you will continue your ascent towards Shira Camp. The trail gradually leaves the forest behind, and you will emerge into the heather zone. As you climb higher, the vegetation becomes sparser, offering panoramic vistas of the mountain and its neighboring peaks. Shira Camp, located at 3,845 meters, is nestled on a plateau and provides an excellent opportunity to witness a breathtaking sunset over the vastness of the Tanzanian plains.
Today's journey takes you to Barranco Camp, crossing the stunning Shira Plateau along the way. The landscape transitions to an alpine desert, characterized by rocky terrain and sparse vegetation. As you approach Lava Tower, a prominent volcanic formation, you will experience a gain in altitude, which aids in acclimatization. Reach the summit for a breathtaking sunrise and panoramic views. Descend back to Barafu Camp, rest briefly, then continue to Mweka Camp at 3,100m. The descent is steep but fulfilling. Mweka Camp offers a serene setting to celebrate and rest after a successful summit.
On the final day of your trek, you will descend from Mweka Camp through the lush rainforest. The air becomes humid, and the vegetation becomes dense as you make your way down the slopes of Kilimanjaro. As you reach Mweka Gate, located at an altitude of 1,640 meters, you will bid farewell to your guides and porters, expressing gratitude for their invaluable support throughout the journey.
