Accommodation Options Along the Marangu Route|Huts Available for Trekkers

The Marangu Route on Mount Kilimanjaro is often referred to as the "Coca-Cola Route" due to its relative popularity and the availability of sleeping huts along the trail. These huts provide a more comfortable option compared to camping, making it a popular choice for those seeking a bit more luxury during their climb.

Mandara Hut (2,700 meters / 8,858 feet):
Mandara Hut is the first accommodation stop on the Marangu Route, usually reached on the first day of the trek. The hut is located in a lush rainforest zone, offering a serene environment surrounded by greenery. It typically consists of several dormitory-style rooms with bunk beds, accommodating multiple trekkers. Each bunk bed usually has a mattress and pillow. There are shared restroom facilities nearby, often featuring basic amenities like toilets and running water.
Horombo Hut (3,720 meters / 12,205 feet):
Horombo Hut is the next stop on the Marangu Route, usually reached on the third day of the trek. It's situated in the moorland zone, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape and distant peaks. Similar to Mandara Hut, Horombo Hut comprises dormitory-style rooms with bunk beds, providing a comfortable resting place for trekkers. The facilities are more basic than those at lower elevations, but they still include shared restroom facilities with running water.
Kibo Hut (4,703 meters / 15,430 feet):
Kibo Hut is the final accommodation stop before the summit attempt, usually reached on the fifth day of the trek. Located in the alpine desert zone, Kibo Hut offers trekkers a strategic resting point before the challenging summit push. The hut is typically more crowded due to its proximity to the summit, and the facilities are more basic compared to lower elevations. Accommodations consist of dormitory-style rooms with bunk beds. Trekkers usually spend a few hours resting and preparing for the summit bid here.
